I think you need to chill out a little, from a quick ctrl-f I see that RS has been called rare once, and steel batallion has been called rare once.

Yes these games are still readly available on ebay, discussing RARE!!!!11!! games is not the point of this thread. Its more about collecting current generation titles for the future.

I don't think anyone pretended otherwise?

All this talk about Rare games

A few years back a local gamestore took up the Neo Geo pocket as the best thing on the block and it didnt sell, at the end they were shifting the games for under a fiver and the consoles for eight quid.

I`m not even mentiong the name, but you can guess which game they had half a dozen copies of!

And most of the stuff ended up in the bin when the company was taken over by Evesham, or so I was told by an ex employee

Hmph, if only I knew it was going to become so rare, i`d have bought all of them

Even though its kinda getting off topic I'd also like to make a point about games prices being deemed valuable

A game that keeps its retail value (40-50 usd) is not a valuable game.
COMPARATIVELY it might be, compared to how low the value of games deemed "not valuable" go for, but overall, they are just keeping their value.

The price needs to go up substantially for a game to be deemed valuable.
not necessarily 100%, but at least 40% to 50% of its original value.

You buy item X for $50, so many years later you can sell X for $50. This does NOT make it a collectible investment.

Just wanted to clarify that as it seems people think an old game that goes for $50 is valuable. You have to remember how much the item originally sold for to have any idea of its value today.

There technically isn't anything rare about games as if your take inflation and other costs into account most games have fallen.

The insane prices that some stuff went for a few years ago has gone, most stuff can be picked up at sensible prices if you wait long enough. And what defines rare? Something that's quite common but sells for a lot (Radiant Silvergun - Saturn) or something that's not common but wouldn't sell for a lot if it did turn up (Fifa Soccer - Megadrive (Jap)) (seen the latter at least 47 times for sale in the last year and the former a grand total of zero times...).

Still people who hoard games with the sole intention of selling them at a profit in the future should be beaten with a large stick.
