Just got Gradius V (PAL) in the post today, running it on a PAL Slim PS2. It's a blue-bottomed CD-ROM based game.
It is the loudest game I've ever played - it makes more noise than even dodgy bootleg copies - it sounds kinda like a small chainsaw
Is this normal? I tried running an original copy of Shikigami no Shiro (JPN CD) in the same PS2, and it's as quiet as a butterfly. So I don't think it's the fact that Gradius V is on CD.
There's no scratches, no dirt, and the disc looks mint.
My big fear is that it's going to burn out my lense, since it's spinning REALLY fast, continuously, without stopping once. Surely the game isn't continuously streaming data?
Advice? Frankly, if it's going to carry on like this, I'm going to be tempted to reburn it onto a DVD and use disc swapping to boot it. Really annoyed since I'd specifically gone to the trouble of buying an original.
Is this perhaps unique to the PAL version?
