Gpu upgrade what would you recommend??

Thinking of upgrading my ATi HD 4800 512 Graphics Card but i dont know what to get cos theres so many new things out today i havent realy kept up on GPUs but id like something between ?100-?125ish and i usualy PC game at 1680 x 1050 max .

Any thoughts or recomendations be most apreciated.

For your money you should be able to get an ati 4870 may even be able to bag a 4890 from eBay. At the res you play you wont need more than 512MB of ram on a GPU but if your planning to buy a full HD panel in the future then go for 1GB.

There are Nvidia alternatives like a GTX 260 but to me performance will be better with the above ATI's if you want to stay within your budget.

Wouldn't bother personally. If you currently have a 4800 series card, then you won't be able to get a noticeable upgrade for the money you're looking to spend.

What is the model of the card you have? if a 4800 model exists then I assume it would be heavily stripped compared to top end 4870/4890 so to me it would worth the upgrade. If you own a 4850 then no don't bother upgrading.

There is no 4800 model, it just represents the series (which consists of 4850, 4870, and 4890). The lower-end cards are the 4300 series, and midrange are 4600/4700 series.

If you've a 4800 series it's not worth upgrading with that amount at the moment. Wait until Nvidia force prices down on the 5850 (which would be a significant upgrade for the money)
