Region-free save games on current-gen

On Wii, 360, PS3, I'm interested to know e.g. if I have a PAL Rock Band game, will the save work with an NTSC game?

Are there general rules or is it different per game?

On the 360, yes. Providing;

- You play the game with the same gamertag
- The game in question doesn't have it's own region-specific achievement list. If it does, it's classed as a different game entirely so the save from the other version is probably no good.

Oblivion (US & UK)
Little Big Planet (US & UK)
GT Prologue(JPN & UK)

Certain PS3 games are region-free for saving. The two Unchartered games for instance. My JPN versions both work fine with UK saves when played under the same profile.

Going back to this thread - thanks all for contributing. Is DLC region-free? i.e. If I buy Rock Band DLC with a USA game disc, will that be available if I play with a UK disc?

PSN DLC is largely region-locked. Only early stuff like RR7 is multi-region in my experience.

360 DLC seems to be region free - I've mixed and matched DLC with discs from all regions.

Not necessarily.

NFS Most Wanted has the same game ID and a single set of achievements but the game saves won't swap between PAL and JP releases. Same with EDF and Rumble Roses.

For Rock Band on PS3 if you buy the USA edition you can only use DLC from the USA store, i have the us copy of RB 1+2 and its the only way to get it to work, it just sits there otherwise (I have tried it to buy UK DLC and it does not work, RB DLC is 100% region locked to the version of the game you have), likewise for the RB1/2 export you cant export USA RB to PAL RB2 etc etc
