hurrah - laptop LCD backlight is failing

Can anyone suggest what the best solution is? look for a new replacement screen assembly on ebay? or just replace the backlight in this screen *if I can get it open*

The laptop is an HP NC6400. I've only had it a few months but I guess I did buy it used and refurbished on ebay, sigh its been fine until now.

Could it just be the inverter board or is it likely to be the backlight itself?

It hasn't done it for the last 10mins but it did it twice before that and wouldn't stay on for longer than 5mins. Closing and opening the laptop seems to make it light up again.

ok now its completely dead and I'm typing from my birds laptop. excellent.

phoned around and people are wanting roughly £100 for an inverter board and repair - sod that I think I will attempt it myself.

Bought a used inverter from ebay for 14 quid - my laptop is now in pieces and hopefully this will fix it. I might cry otherwise.
