    360 optical out

Hey there, ok ive a query

My 360 is setup as such, hdmi to tv, and optical out to surround system.
However, the 360 will still send sound to the tv, so unless i mute the tv i get an echo between it and the surround speakers. The ps3, doesnt do this.

Am i missing a setting or is this just the way it is?

    cheers

I have the same thing with my component lead - the stereo leads from the component go to the tv and I have an optical to my amp. I've always just accepted that I need to turn the sound down on my tv, I don't think there's a way to turn off the sound from a specific lead.

Maybe the TV has an option to ignore sound on a particular input channel?
PS3 has the option to output to HDMI as well as Optical. Maybe there's a similar option somewhere?

You have the optical lead from the 360 to the surround sound or from the TV to the surround sound. If it is from the 360, try plugging the optical lead into the output on the TV. That way you are feeding audio, which might bypass the TV speakers as the TV then goes and feeds the audio further down to the Amp.

My TV (toshiba 32" 720p, couple of years old..) has a setting to have no sound on one of it's HDMI ports so I use that one for the 360. Might be worth checking your TV menus / manuals.
I think it's a weird option though, doesn't make much sense, something like 'PC audio on AV3' !?

The ps3 has the option to output sound to either so I point that at the optical and all is well.
