Question about a modded Wii.

Hi.

I've recently purchsed a Wii off the forums. The owner said it was a PAL version which may or may not be modded. He couldn't remember. I've been playing Little KIng's Story on it and it works fine.
Last night I tried to play Dead Space: Extraction and it came up saying that I had to do a system update. It also said that if I did this on a modded console that it may not work afterwards. Is this true and is there an easy way to check to see if it has been modded or not? Don't wnat to knacker it!

What version is the dash? e.g. 3.2E (go to the wii settings area).
Do you have the homebrew channel?

The dash is indeed 3.2E but there is no homebrew channel that I can see. Would it show on the front page with the other channels?

Download the small Wiikey config or a homebrew channel installer iso and burn it to DVD.
If it boots then it is modded.
