Don't know anything about the LG but I had a W5500 earlier this year. Good picture, naff remote, inconsistent UI and utterly woeful sound quality. Even the missus thought it sounded awful. Part exchanged it for a new cooker.

I end up sounding like a broken record with this stuff, but have a look at the Panasonic plasmas in that price range. They're the best in their class and they wipe the floor with any LCD that I've seen, picture wise.

Can't speak for sound because I use external speakers.

Think it's the PS8000 that's the really good panasonic plasmas. Cheap and great quality. They've got the power usage down too (<100W difference between a typical LCD)

The 42SL8000 has fantastic calibrated accuracy (Pioneer KURO levels) but the Black Level is the biggest problem. It's very grey-looking. Again to sound like a broken record, but I did a review over at AVforums.com/reviews.

The Sony will give a better black level and those displays are reasonably accurate nowadays if you use the orange THEATER MODE button.

Good point on the theatre mode.. For some reason I've only just started using it on my 32inch LCD bravia - made a hell of a difference.
