Problem with DS Scribblenaults. Please help :)

Hi i bought my mother this game for Xmas and she played happily on it for a little, then she did the tutorial and i think thats when she got this problem

it says something like 'Cannot read data, data will be deleted' and thats it. I thought maybe the save data was corrrupted somehow and it would be ok after it was deleted but it just does it all the time now, sometimes as soon as you start the game. is this a faulty cartridge or a problem that can be fixed? it seems strange the cartridge worked fine initially. It was a brand new game too

I appreciate any help. thank you

Was it purchased from a reputable source?

Can you post a pic of the game & box ect as the symptoms you describe all point to it been a bootleg version, especially as you mentioned Ebay.

no, it all looks real to me, its complete and even has helath + Safety booklet. it is a US game tho i just noticed, but it shouldn't be a problem. Thing is it did work for teh first couple of hours, now it won't work at all - just get that message. can i erase the data somehow and start again? the game cart thing has all teh numbers on it too that you would expect,

One possible cause might be the contacts are dirty but if it's new that shouldnt happen, try inserting it & removing it out of the ds a few times.

The only game i have had this happen to me on was cooking mama 3 & that was an original but for some reason the slot on my ds was dirty so it wasnt connecting with the cart properly.
