    Cable Recommendations

    Hey All,

Parents & brother have both just upgraded to full 1080p LCD Panels & now need some cables for connection duties

So I'm looking for 1m HDMi & Scart cables & have a budget of ?15-?20 per cable.

Personally I've got Ixos Scart cables at home for my Sky Box & DVD Recorder which I'm happy with & will most likely get them but just wondered if anyone else had recommendations on what brand to get...I'm to poor to have LCD so no HDMi here & deffinitley need some help on what to buy there.

So who has what & any links on good places to buy would be appreciated

    Ta muchly

It's not quite as essential to get a high quality cable when dealing with digital sources because of the nature of digital - a weak signal may result in corruption in the actual image, but a £1 HDMI cable doing it's job will look identical to a £50 HDMI cable.

This is different with analogue sources like Scart.

Get a 99p HDMI cable from eBay. You only need to spend more if you're going very long distances.

Both true ^ But bear in mind that hdmi cables are pretty much the same cable as cat 5.
I`ve seen some cheap flimsy ones fall apart after being removed from the backs of tvs etc.
Look up Neet on Ebay - cheap but tough.

I've had a cheap HDMI leave the casing inside a PS3. You'll get the same picture quality from brandless cables but you won't get the durability and shielding.

Also, if you need a cable to go more than 5m, you need to spend a bit more, once you get further than that, you start to get signal loss with low quality cables.

Don't ever spend more than a tenner for a cable under 5m.Aim to spend ~£6

Yeah, you don't need to spend anywhere close to £20 on an HDMI cable, but there are benefits to getting a slightly better one. Definitely agree with going a little higher than the 99p eBay ones.

Personally I go to a little independent electronics shop near me. They do a 2m cable for £5 and I've used them for everything without issue.

Just did an install today for a friend. Used 15m 24awg cable (neet £49.95).
              Full 1080p @ 24hz + HDDTS No problem.
              A shop in Chichester wanted £150 + for a 15m lead!
