    Xbox 360 "Disc Read Error" from Hard Drive?!

    OK, bit of weird one this, it has me stumped and I'm hoping somone here might be able to point me in the right direction....

    Just to give a bit of background, I have one of the old 20gb, PAL, non HDMI "Premium" machines. I bought this brand new in Feb '07 and it had RROD'ed on me once in Oct/Nov 2008.

    I have subsequently purchased, new, a 120gb Drive, probably about 18 months ago, specifically after the dash update that allowed you to install games, hopefully I'm making sense so far....

    The problem I have is with Lego Batman (PAL), which I have installed to the HD, when I load up the second mission set, with Croc, Penguin etc I get a "Disc Read Error" and taken back to the dash. As far as I am concerned the machine is not reading the disc but the data from the HD.

    I have tried the following, with no joy...

    1) Uninstalling and re-installing the game.
    2) Disconnecting and re-connecting the HD.

    Interestingly the game plays fine (albeit nosily!), direct from the disc and fine on my Lads Elite which we got him for X-mas, it IS installed on his HD too.

    Anyone have any ideas, I never dreamed the machine would outlast the HD....

    It sounds like your new HDD is maybe the problem I think. Do other games run ok from the HDD?

      I had a weird thing like this the other day, I'd installed a game to the HDD (Mw2) and it would start up and the game was going then I'd get a disc read error.

      My machine is almost 3 years old so I wonder if the DVD drive is on it's way out, I suspect it checks the disc periodically to check it is still inside the drive.

        Glad it's not just me! My error has come up at the exact SAME point each time tho'....

        I tried something else too, I deleted the game from the HD and took both my HD and the game upstairs to the second console. I then re-installed the game onto the HD via the newer machine. Worked like a charm with no issues at the usual spot. I then took it downstairs to try bu was unaware that you could only play games on the machine that had performed the original install.

        I'm now thinking that the issue is with the DVD drive and the way it's reading the data when transferring it to the HD. If it is the HD I'll be royally peeved.

        I guess I need to start looking around for a cheap arcade......

        @Sumire:
