Getting Currys to do a TV demo with a 360 for me

Are they likely to do this for me?
I'm after a 22 inch LCD & the 1's I see instore all seem to have ****ty pictures which I assume is due to the poor connection they have.

I just want to see what gamings gonna look like on 1 & what SD DVDs will look like thru my 360 on it with a HDMI connection.

When I bought my TV from Comet, they were more than happy to let me hook my 360 to the display unit.

I sat in the Sony store for an hour with my consoles doing demos. Didn't buy one in the end, but it helped the decision.

Thanks guys. I'm after 1 of those 1080p 22 inch TV's that LG, Philips & Samsung are currently selling. Just want to see whether they're gonna be a duffer before I shell out my hard earned

Same. (although the sales person was a 'proper' salesman. Bit too forceful for my liking..aggressive fu8k)

If they want the sale, they'll let you do just about anything...

You would be an idiot to buy a tv instead of just a 22@ 1080p monitor. I only paid £90 for my INCREDIBLE fujitsu siemens 22 incher, its native res is 1080p, and it has two hdmi ports, and a vga. This would more than do you if you're only gonna be gaming :S

A rubbish wee tv tuner isn't worth the money. Just get playtv if you got a ps3 :P

Maybe you can't buy 720p monitors any more, but at that size I would have said that 1080p is going a bit over the top. I have a friend who works in a telly shop and he says you really need 32" or more to properly view 1080p.

Could be wrong, though. Unless you really need the RGB inputs/TV tuner, I would also recommend a monitor over TV if the prices are that far apart.

Hmm ok I'll look into the 22 inch monitors.

I actually bought a 32 LG LCD just after Xmas but had trouble with the lag when using it for gaming & lip sync problems when watching DVDs so it went back. Picture quality even thru HDMI was pretty poor too. My old Samsung CRT TV looked a million times better than it tbh. DVD's & gaming were sharp as a pin thru SCART & no lag issues whatsoever.

I thought a smaller 1080p LCD screen might look better than a larger screen as it would be compressed into a smaller picture & therefore look a lot crisper, but I'm only comparing this to if the equivalent were done with a CRT TV.

I don't mean to make you sound like an idiot here, but it sounds like you didn't calibrate your lg tv :P

You need to muck around with EVERYTHING on an LCD... turning sharpness right off, putting game mode on so no lag is there... lots of things. I think you just jumped the gun a little.

Go buy another lcd tv :P and come here for calibration advice if you're having trouble.

If you're sat at typical monitor viewing distance though 1080p on 22" is fine. I sit about 2ft from my monitor so my eyes can resolve the pixels fine on a 1080p signal. At nornmal TV viewing distances though yeah, 1080p is pointless on a 22" screen.

Yeah I know what you're saying & I took full advantage of Currys 30 returns policy in order to fiddle with all the picture options. I even went on to a few forums dedicated to the LG LH5000 & found people posting their best calibrations, so I tried them too, but I still wasnt satisfied.

My bro bought a lower spec model (LH3000), just plugged in & the picture was crisp with no lag

I always say if you can get 1080p for cheap, go for it. The "it's not worth it" argument really only worked when 1080p displays were expensive.

Getting TVs to look good can be a real pain. You shouldn't need specialist knowledge just to get a picture that isn't processed to hell, but try telling that to the companies making them. Usually just selecting the "Cinema" mode will get you some way there.

If it's just for gaming, buying a monitor is good advice. You'll be more likely to avoid input lag, although you might get a panel with weaker contrast (although I can't imagine LCD TVs at that price range have amazing contrast anyway).

Ok so monitor is the way to go for gaming. What about for SD DVDs thru my 360 using HDMI too? Is the picture quality going to be as sharp & as vibrant as my old 20 inch CRT Samsung TV?

What about upping the size to a 24 inch 1080p monitor?, & has anyone got any advice on which brands are good & what to avoid?
