Mad Cartz Scart Splitter/N64 picture Q

    Hey.
Went into a shop called Chips today. And they had a Mad Cartz Scart Splitter for sale. It's 12.99 and advertises it uses RGB on it.

Anyone got one? Is it better than the Argos one? Another Q. With the Argos splitter, you need to buy another SCART to SCART lead don't you? So that would be an extra bit of dosh for a decent one.

With this you don't, you think it's worth picking up? Looks a hell of alot nicer than the argos one too.

    Cheers.

    Scott

EDIT: WHat;s the best picture you can get on an N64? I swear i've heard before you an't get an RGB picture. But I just found a RGB lead for the N64 on ebay.

Looks don't come into it, the only splitter you need is the Argos one especially now they are selling the steel cased version.
No picture degredation means it cannot be beaten so case closed

Looks like it's the Argos one then.

Do you need a seperate Scart to Scart to connect it to the TV?

Ah, that's the thing. If you want a decent RGB picture you're going to have to bung ot another ?30 for a top Scart lead.

I think I might give this mad cartz one ago if that's the case.

I can always take it back if its ****e.

The connection from the Mad Catz box to the TV will be a poor quality SCART almost certainly, so you are not going to equal the quality of an Argos box with a ?30 SCART.

You could always buy the Argos box and a ?3 SCART....

For a good picture. WHat kind of money do I need to be spending on a scart if all my consoles will be using RGB.

                ?10? ?15? ?20? ?25? ?30?

I want a great picture but dont want to go into silly money.

The thing is i'm about to buy a ?35 Scart to scart lead for my new DVD player! So I don't really want to spend another ?35 if possible.

Do you think a ?25 scart lead would do a good job? I wouldn't of thougt that cheap scart box splitter would be that good anyway... Will the differance be major?

Thanks for your help and sorry for being a geek.

It is really hard to answer that question but you do need to bear in mind that it is pointless spending ?35 on a SCART lead and then plug it into an Argos box and then have a poorer quality SCART connecting this to the TV because the quality of your signal will just be the worst cable in the link.

Personally I just use the gold plated ones available from Argos, and if you are on a limited budget I would suggest that unless you have a very big TV you would not notice much difference between these and the expensive ones.

The best way to check is to try them out - see if someone can give you a demo of the leads or something. I know that if I was to buy ?35 SCART leads evertime I wanted to plug something into my boxes I would have no money left by now .

Some models of US and Jap N64's can be RGB modded. PAL ones cannot.

I think i'll go for a ?25 lead, and then a ?35 one for my DVD player.

The thing is i've got a Panny 32" in my bedroom, so it is quite a big TV, so i'm guessing I would see the difference.

The only thing that bothers me is that there may not be any differance between a ?10 scart and a ?35 scart. How decent quality is the Argos Scart block? As it's only cheap... i wouldnt of thought you could get a really good picture using it.

?25 Gold Plated lead should do the business really...

****! I just realised, the back of my TV only has 1 RGB input. So I won't be able to put my DVD RGB straight to the TV. It will have to go through the scart block. Bugger. So to make the most of the ?35 lead, i'll need to by another one going from the Scart block to the TV.

How about this... ?25 lead from the DVD player to the Scart block. ?35 lead from the scart block to the TV?

Oh man. This is a load of toddle.

Just buy two identical cables, the ?25 ones should be ok.

I've never heard of anybody say ANYTHING bad about the argos switcher - I have three of them plugged into one, then onto my old 32" set.

I don't notice any loss of picture quality on my 36" set before I switched to component.

If you really want a top quality switcher and want to pay over the odds for it, keene do a very nice 4 way one for ?130 that is remote switchable and will also switch between two optical inputs too.

Sack tap that! Argos switcher will do...

Can't believe i'm spending ?50 on too Scart.

                          Who said gaming wasn't expensive!

The only thing I was worried about is that it wouldn't be as good as quality going through the Scart block, then if i went straight to the tv.

                          Thanks for your help.
