    Server enclosure for consoles?

Has anybody used a rackmount server enclosure for console storage and use?

I've been looking at AV racks for the longest time and none of them seem to have what I'm looking for- namely oodles of space for retro consoles, a decent depth for my AV amp (Sony STR-DA5000ES) and a nice dust-proof (and cat-proof) door that I can lock. I found all of the above when looking at server enclosures and there are heaps of options available if I want to add extra shelves, power strips or lighting. They also seem to be quite cheap compared to AV furniture that holds a lot less. Would such an enclosure be appropriate for consoles?

Sony's used them for storing PS3s when running game servers: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/...rhawk-servers/

If a modern console like that can survive it, I can't see why anything else would have a problem.

No reason why they shouldn't be ok, servers are heavier and hotter than consoles, it's just a case of ensuring they'll fit securely on the mounts

Thanks for the responses. The 3U shelves seem to be a good size. Being able to completely remove the side of the unit for cabling purposes seems to be a major benefit too.

Have you got any good links? I've been thinking about setting up my consoles in a similar way.

There's a good video here, check the info for the company URL. Looking at the 42U 600mmx600mm rack myself. The equivalent AV stand would cost thousands and the glass door will stop my cat from trying to sleep behind the amp when I'm gaming.
