    PS3 HDD Problem *URGENT!*

    I have a problem

My friend's PS3 keeps consistently crashing on boot and he is going to get it replaced via warranty. However, he has content such as family photos on the console of sedimental value which he doesn't wish to part with.

Is there a way for me to transfer over the contents of the HDD to say a PC via a Sata cable so I can retrieve the contents of the HDD to backup? I know by taking out the HDD and replacing it into another PS3 it will format but I need to somehow get hold of the photo contents. He doesn't care about anything else on the HDD but photos of this child etc.

Please let me know as this is seriously urgent

    Kind Regards

    Joseph

I don't think you can retrieve anything from it as the file system is encrypted, as far as I'm aware you may be able to connect it to a PC and it'll recognise that theres a file system on there but due to the above it won't be able to read it.

You could always try booting the hidden recovery menu by holding the power button down until you hear 3 beeps and then try reinstalling the latest firmware to see if that maybe fixes the booting issue, theres options on there for restore system and rebuild database as well but I'm unsure whether or not they will delete things like photos, may be worth a try as a last resort.

You know that part in Snatch when they talk about the lurcher catching the rabbit? "What proper ****ed?" That's your mate I'm afraid.
      Kept you waiting, huh?
