Q modified RGB cable doesn't show picture

    Hey all,

Just received my modified RGB cable for my Panansonic Q today but unfortunately I'm not getting any picture from it.

When I turn the Q on it switches to the correct scart channel but just shows black. I can get sound from it no problems, and the DVD playback works fine, but I'm just not getting any picture for the game.

If I take the Digital connector out it will show up but will be very blurry and washed out.

Anyone have any ideas on what might help me? Coudl it be the cable is buggered (I really hope not since it came from HK)?

    All help is appreciated.

    *Edit*

By the way, my TV does support RGB because I previously had a modified RGB cable for my Cube.

Well do you know if this cable has been wired to autoswitch to RGB? Does your TV auto switch?

Soundslike an auto switching problem to me...

    I had the same problem...

The cable and TV both autoswitch.

I just tried putting the lead into the second scart socket and I got a picture.

However the picture looked exactly the same as the normal composite picture... As with the composite picture there are lines running down the screen when the screen is black (noticable when the gumecube logo screen comes up) and the colours (especially the reds) aren't nearly as crisp as the RGB lead I had for the Cube. Surely a digital picture wouldn't show such problems?

Sounds like a poorly made cable then IMO.

I have a converted Q cable that I bought from HK... It was total rubbish and the autoswitching resistor fell off after a few months..

One metal Supra scart block later and some incredible sleeving and craftsmanship from Groundy at Scorpion Cables and the picture quality is stunning.

sounds like the rgb switch voltage isn't wired up or isn't the right voltage for your tv.

That's exactly right. Your TV doesn't like the voltage going through pin 16. I had the same problem with my GC and Q leads. Saurian was kind enough to explain how to fix it for me.

Basically, your TV is activating Fast Blanking mode instead of switching to a nice RGB picture. Saurian's advice to me was: "Cut pin 16 short man (doesnt need to be very short - just so it doesnt contact the socket) - the voltage supplied to that pin is what is causing the screen to blank. This will disable RGB switch completely - and you'll need to force RGB mode via another console."

You'll need a scart switch box. Nowadays, every time I use my Cube, I have to turn my Playstation on, too. But it's better than no RGB. Remove pin 16, either by cutting it off or by disconnecting and taping the wire inside (better, since you can resolder it another time).

It's just a quirk of your TV, is all.

Did you get this over the net-where from? Lan-Kwei??

I did, and it did exactly the same as yours, word for word. Saurian fixed the appalling job they did of it and it's great now, and works perfectly.

Yeah Lan-Kwei were the offending party here.

I'll try the suggestions posted above and then if that doesn't work try cutting the pin, but I'm not so sure on this so it will indeed have to be a last resort.

                Thanks for the advice guys.

Yes, probably best to check to see if the pin is outputting the right voltage before resorting to any major surgery.
