stupid skies of arcadia question, help!

i've just got the stone from shrine island, and have come back home to find those bastards have bombed the **** out of everything. now, i'm trying to get back into the base, but the only entrance i can get to/find is the one behind a rock wall, where there's a woman attending to an injured chap. but this only leads to a ledge, so i can't get down from there. i can see a large well type thing by the save point outside my house, but there's a bloody great felled tree in the way which i can't get past. how do i get in? help!

if I remember rightly, theres a pipe on the edge of that ledge that you can get to. I think you could slide down there....
