windows 7 how do i give my ethernet a ip address?

installed windows 7....was trying to connect my xbox to it but its saying there is no ip address how do i set that up ?

(not worried about it being online i just want the xbox connected so i can put videos on it )

Are you trying to plug the 360 into the PC's ethernet port?

Better off plugging it into your router and enabling file sharing though.

yeah thats what i am doing...works fine in xp but in windows 7 or vista it wont cannot connect to router....my pc and my xbox are in the same room....the pc has a wirless usb thing which connects to router in another room

dont really need to connect to live though just to my comp so i can move vids across
