    Is this worth investigating?

    Hi Guys,

Was in the local Sony Centre yesterday & saw this telly on offer...

Just wondering if you though it was a good purchase or not.

?700 for a 40" set with Freesat & a 5 Year warranty seemed pretty good to me & the demo set looked pretty nice running Blu-Ray & Sky HD

Just wondering if I should have a proper look & replace the CRT with one.

    Thanks guys

    Neil

Got to admit I didn't look for prices online but that seems like a bargain right there.

      Pretty tempted now.
Think I'll have a proper demo at the Sony Centre this weekend then see after that.

      Thanks

Those displays are nice enough, but if you have a CRT now, I would migrate to Plasma, not LCD. £100 more and you can get a Panasonic TX-P42G20 with better black level, better motion resolution, better contrast, better viewing angle, and keep the Freesat.

And critically for gaming, the Panasonic NeoPDPs have very low input lag (20ms or so). I believe some places do it with a 5 year warranty too (Panasonic Stores)?

I'd always recomend getting a demo where you aren't shown reference Pixar blu-ray films or carefully selected HD tv channels, there is still a huge amount of poor quality low def stuff shown so get them to show you soem SD and see how the tv resolves that, a lot of the cheaper models make this stuff look horrible and blocky and its a good test.

Blimey where did you see that??

Best I've seen so far are nearly ?900.

Ideally I'd love a Plasma but the good quality ones are well pushing my budget.
Best I can manage would be a Panny S10 full HD
I just really liked the look of the Sony screen but I do need whatever I get to be good with retro stuff...Wont be able to live without Batsugun & Battle Garegga or the PS2 shooters & Fighters

Costco were doing them with 5 year warranty.

If you go to the AVForums.com review I did (it's on the main reviews page) and scroll to the bottom there are some up-to-date prices.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the 5 year warranty, although it's nice to have. It's my experience that this stuff either breaks down within 1 year or goes on and on.
