OpenOffice and Footnotes

I need a little bit of help with using Footnotes in OpenOffice. I need to use these for an assessment, and have to use numbered footnotes for linguistic annotations, and alphabetical footnotes for cultural/background annotation. However, it seems that you can only use one or the other with OpenOffice.

Does anyone know how to do this? I'll have no choice but to grab MS Office otherwise.

Can't you just create the footer and manually add numbers/letters where needed?
