Modded 360, just what can they do?

Looking at various threads there seem to be alot of nice Japan only realeses of 360 games. Rather than importing a machine from Japan I'd prefer to mod a UK 360.

I used to have a modded original xbox and could do lots of great things with it, but what can you do with a modded 360? I haven't looked at much to do with them but previously understood you could only play pirated games (not bothered about that) but now I understand you can save movies to the HD, run a OEM hard-drive, play imports etc?

What can you do with a modded PAL 360? How difficult is it and what do you need? Can I just buy a cheap arcade? I have a feeling it's not this simple...

I think it has to have a certain firmware on it to do anything special.

I have a flashed one but I never even use it. If I could have it returned to the original firmware, I would.

The normal mod is to flash the dvd's firmware to play copied discs. This does not affect the region (thus I do not allow them for sale here).

I heard there is a complex method to change the region, but you have to perform this mod every time - it's not region free, so isn't worth bothering with, unless you have a 2nd box you want to change permanently. Could be talking out of my posterior on this one though.

        Google search J-Tag

Basically if you can get your hands on a launch X-Box with the original Dashboard (not the current fancy thing) then the machine can be made into a Development Kit & can run unsigned XEX & unsigned code & with modded code will be region free to play imports from the Hard Drive but even better is that you can run MAME on it too.

I dont understand it all myself but it sounds good to me.
