Windows 7 Start up Blue Screen

    Hello there.

I'm having a major problem with Windows 7.

I've been using it for about a month without any problem and today it hung and stopped responding so I just held in the power button till it powered down. Now it won't start up.

If I start Windows normally I get the starting screen with the moving Windows logo and then a flash of a blue screen of death and then it restarts itself.

I get the option to use start up recovery and I go into that and it can't fix the problem but if I look at the diagnostic it says that it failed to find a hard drive. It also won't let me use a restore point and kicks up an error when I do a memory diagnostic.

I've opened it up and unplugged the hard drive and plugged it back in and done the same with the RAM after I saw that advice on the Windows forums but it hasn't helped.

I assume that means something went bad with my hard drive when I turned it off earlier. Do I need to get a new hard drive or is there anyway of salvaging this one?

Forgive my ignorance, I'm not very good with computer problems!

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Cheers

I am going to say that most blue screens as usually the sign of a hardware fault in my experience. And it probably is the HDD on its way out. I am not going to put money on it though.

go into your bios and see if it has any SMART type tools, those can sometimes tell you if a drive has or is about to completely fail.

But yeah, blue screens are 90% of the time hardware failure and 10% corruption caused by viruses.

I got a very similar problem mate. In the end it was my hard drive that was failing, I dunno how long you've had the hard drive but have you heard any clicking noise or anything to suggest it may of been on it's way out?
