    Do Asian (e.g. HK) PS3s play Japanese-region PS1 games?

I'm 99.95% sure the answer to the question is yes, but just in case I'm actually wrong, I came here to check.

They do indeed. They also play Japanese PS2 games too.

As long as you're playing them in a HD resolution as only PAL region PS3s are capable of displaying 50Hz games.

Why would PAL be relevant to either an Asian or Japan region PS3?

HK PS3's support both PAL and NTSC. That HD/SD resolution thing doesn't apply. You can use any TV.

If the console can't output the picture format the game requires you won't be able to play them. Playing Japanese games on a Hong Kong PS3 wouldn't be an issue in SD. ED or HD though.

I know the original question wasn't about PAL PS1 games but thought it was worth mentioning for future reference.

Didn't realise the Hong kong consoles could output 50Hz pictures too. Having said that, I did know that the South Korean version did as I have a friend with one so I suppose it's really just common sense that the PS3 in other Asian regions would also do the same. Doh!
