    Xbox stuff

I hope this doesn't break any forum rules if so just delete the thread as I had no intention of overstepping the mark, if there is one.

I'd like help understanding and getting the emulators which came on the Xbox AID v4.4 disc I have working. The disc also included what are said to be, in all the places I've checked, legal ROM sets for some of the emulators.

Right, so I have chipped/softmodded Xboxes, I have installable emulators and, likewise, the aforementioned ROM sets - so what, exactly, do I do with them? Is there indeed anything I can do with them if I don't have a PC (which I don't)?

I know absolute zilch about this and reading up on the subject specifically concerning the Xbox hasn't been much help as to the practicalities. All the Xbox tutorials I've read start off clearly enough but then seem to jump the part explaining how and if, with the Xbox, the emulators are or can be used with the the ROM set files.

Most assume a degree of knowledge I just don't have eg. before I got hold of the AID disc I had no idea that it had emulators and ROM sets on it. Even when I did I didn't know that they were even connected to one another let alone how to use them. I know a bit more now but not much.
Any help and explanation of what I can do with them, if anything, using my very limited set up appreciated.

No idea about that disc, but normally you install emulators on the xbox in an "apps" folder (via ftp from a PC..........) or just run them off the dvd.

Yes, that's the bit I understand and have done or rather had done until I discovered I didn't know what the hell I was doing and uninstalled them all from the Xbox (root E partition) HDD.

It's precisely how to marry the two parts together which nobody, ever, thinks to explain. They just say install an emulator and use it with the apporopriate ROM set for the game/emulator you're using. Even in tutorials they assume you will know how to do that.

Well I have emulators and matching ROM sets for several of them on the AID disc but I, clearly, do not know how to do that. So can somebody please explain, in simple terms a newbie to this area of gaming like me will understand, how do I use them together on the Xbox?

The Roms would only work with the relevant Emulator, 1st step is to start up the Emulator and then select the game you wish to play (usually from the directory path, in the Emu) then pressing the B

Depending on how it has been setup you may have to redirect the paths (unlikely if its been put on a installer disc but heyho), you can normally do this within the Emu or worst case scenario you would need to alter the INI file with the text editor. I do not have the AID4 setup so can't visulise your current HDD content

You can generally place anything pretty much anywhere on the HDD, some Apps & Emu's will just require a alteration of the INI file. You can have a Emu on the HDD running Roms from a disc providing you have told the Emu where to look & I do not know if all can run like this however?

Some older stuff may only run from a particular partition as is?

I was experimenting last night reinstalling about half a dozen emus (to E drive) from the AID v4.4 disc and then doing the same for the matching ROM sets.

What appeared to happen, by checking the emus > specific named emu folder, using the file manager, is that the ROM set is automatically put in the same folder.

Problem is that from there loading up each of the emus I was using in turn I couldn't find any games to run. I click on 'play game' or 'list games' and there's apparently nothing there. I get, typically, a <D/:>? clickable which brings up a sub-menu which in some cases inludes "ROMS" but you click on that and nothing happens.

The thing is I have absolutely no idea what is in the ROM sets on the AID disc short of installing them all and trawling through their files without a clear idea of what I'm looking at. Are there any games included for any emu and if not what is happening when you click on install for a particular ROM set?

A file of some sort is clearly being installed but it seems, for all the ones I've tried, it is often very small one. Only the Mamedox-NES emulator (apologies if this isn't quite the correct title) did something new after the matched ROM set was installed and that is apparently update the emu version.

It does tell me though that simply installing the ROM sets from the disc works in some way. But if there are no games or other apparently usable or useful content what are they all there for?

I think I'm more confused now than when I started.

The Installer disc probably just loads up the Emu at a guess?
Have a look within the Rom folders for any title, and lmk... Like I said without using it its hard to grasp what you are saying?

When you are in the Emu and you get a <D/:>? clickable which brings up a sub-menu which in some cases inludes "ROMS" but you click on that and nothing happens. this is what I was trying to explain in my prev post. This is the path where you are currently looking for your Rom, it does not need to be in this section but that is the default setting. You can from that screen point to where you have your stuff on the HDD for that particular Emu or whatever. Just highlight that clickable link and browse until you locate where you have your stuff

              Any help?
