    PS3 VGA Leads

I've just got a Slim PS3 and wanted to connect it to the monitor in my room as I do the 360 and Wii - both of those are connected via VGA into a splitting box and channel the audio out to 2 RCA which goes in the back of a 5.1 setup I have. I understand DVI cables are freely available for the PS3 which would be fine but it's a monitor not a TV so there are no speakers, and as the 5.1 gubbins doesn't have any optical input I have no other way of connecting the audio.

I currently use a VDigi cable thing for my Wii -> VGA needs, but looking on eBay I see plenty of cables offering to do Wii + PS3 -> VGA + RCA. Does anyone have any experience of these - are there any to avoid? They seem to be about ?20 a pop so I don't want to end up buying multiple.

You say the 5.1 setup doesn't have an optical input but does it have phono? You could use an HDMI->DVI for the video and a seperate ps3 composite cable for the audio if so. I believe you can select the composite for sound out in the audio options.

I think the VGA leads convert component or something and is obviously still analogue so it won't be as crisp as HDMI I'd imagine.

It does have phono yes, and that sounds perfect. I didn't realise that you could connect two different leads at once and make the audio go via composite. Problem solved, cheers kern

Check your ps3 sound options before buying, but I am sure you can select multiple or different outputs for sound.

Also make sure your monitor is HDCP compatible if your hooking it up via DVI as otherwise you'll get no image.

Ugh. Monitor is HDCP compliant but the KVM I use is not. Just spent 20 minutes crawling round under my desk trying to accommodate for a mere 1m of HDMI -> DVI cable too.

Not sure what the plan is from here

I guess you could use a HDMI switcher between the KVM and monitor (assuming you still want to use the KVM for other purposes)... it shouldn't introduce any quality loss, being digital and all that.
