    Multi-Region Gaming in Japan

    Hey all,

forgive my ignorance about these matters, but I haven't bought any of this generation's consoles, so I know next to nothing about them.

I'm moving to Japan in a couple of months and would like to pick up one of the latest gen machines. However, I'd like it to be able to play PAL games as well JPY, so I can play some of the RPGs that are out. What are the machines' multi-region capacity like, what do I need to make a JPY machine multi-region?

My order of preference for the current gen is: 360; PS3; Wii (I really wish the Wii had more games that appealed to me, as I love the look of SMG and had a 'Cube), but I'd like to know as much about my options as possible.

Thanks a lot for your time.

Personally I'd go PS3 as all EU/US/JPN/ASN games are region free, there are some region free titles on 360 but it's never something you can 100% guarantee except for the output of a couple of publishers.

As far as JRPG's go the 360 did get a good number of them early on, some have since had PS3 ports i.e Star Ocean, Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia so it depends how much you want to play the 360 exclusives like Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, The Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery.

Most of the upcoming JRPG's seem to be either multiplatform or PS3 exclusive from what I've seen, also if your planning on playing FF13 on a Japanese console then afaik the PS3 is your only option of playing it in english.

http://gaijingamers.com/ has lots of good info. There is a list of region free games/games with English support too.
