    Freesat or Freeview HD

***Actually Never mind - just checked & Freeview HD isnt available in my area until 2012 Freesat it is then***

    Hi guys,

Well as you may have seen I've got my new G20 Panny Plasma & seeing as it has dual HD tuners I'm wondering which one is worth hooking up??

Should I pay to have Freesat installed (already have standard sky) or just go for Freeview HD down the aerial??

Are there more channels on Freesat or is it all just the same?

    Ta muchly

    Neil

Can't you just hook the Freesat feed up to your existing sky dish?

That's going to be the plan now...but I still have to have someone come round to do it

Just looking into it all now see what's required.

You just feed your existing sky dish into your TV
Do you really need someone to do that?

I actually have this issue as well - I have a connection from the wall which I know used to be used for a Sky dish.

I plugged it into the back of my FreeSat HD enabled TV and no signal.

At all. Won't even recognise my postcode.

Does someone need to activate it?

No activation required - It's FREEsat. The postcode is probably to tell the TV what sats to use.
Freesat is broadcast from the same sats as Sky. I have Sky+ which has 4 outputs from the dish one of which I have connected to a freesat receiver for BBC and ITV HD
Was going for Sky HD but they wanted the box to be connected to a phone line for 12 months which I can't do.

There are various debates on the compression quality of Freeview (better) vs Freesat.

be interested to know how you get on. I've got a G10 currently only use SKY+ HD but am moving house in a few weeks to a place with an ariel. I expected to pop the coax in and get standard freeview and freeview HD then get a sky dish as well so have 3 options for HD guessing thats not gonna work now. How is the G20?

Only matters if you have a multi-room, so they know you aren't getting a cheap second box for a neighbour on the sly from the same dish etc. I have never plugged my SKy HD box in apart from when the engineer was here (who told me the above).

I have Freesat with an HD box. Not a lot of HD, but the ITV footy is a nice bonus.

I actually run both Freesat and Sky off a Sky installed dish, best of both worlds

I wanted the self install as for an engineer and manual activation it was ?85 which is too much as I already have Freesat HD. I rarely watch anything on Sky but it would be more family friendly than my existing solution.

Really? I haven't done a lot of in depth testing (all HD TV broadcasts look kinda naff after getting used to BD) but they looked the same when I flicked back and forth once...

I've no idea what it's like yet...havent got her setup yet
I currently have a dirty great 32" CRT stuck in the way at the moment
Hopefully will get it gone soon & I can get the G20 setup, havent got the space for both which sucks

I was hoping this would be mentioned as I didnt want to lose the use of Sky to run Freesat through the dish.
Guess I'll have to look for an installer nearby to sort it all out for me.

Thanks for the input guys much appreciated.

So presumably I don't have freesat in my area either... Central London?

I'm going to do some investigating.
