360 5.1 Hdmi?

Do I need to have the optical in to get 5.1 or with the HDMI lead alone suffice?

It does, when did that happen? I've only ever got 5.1 over the Optical output.

It should work fine over HDMI. But it only supports DD, DTS or PCM 2.0 - not HD formats.

Be warned, with HDMI I often find I have to switch over to Stereo then back to 5.1 in the 360's sound options when I turn the machine one. Sometimes it "stays" in 5.1, other time reverts back to Stereo. It's about 50/50. No idea why, could be the amp.

You also need to have "Deep Display Discovery" turned OFF, otherwise you'll only get 2.0.

Took me over a week to work that out.......
