    Gaming Art

I'm currently revamping the house and would like to put some pictures up - thing is though I want to be relevant to me hence I've decided to go for some gaming art, thing is I dont know if its a viable option...

    hence my questions are:

Do screen resolutions result in a printed image size?

Could professional printer companies take any image and make it any size?

What printer companies would you recommend?

Lastly, where a good place to get frames from?

    Thanks

if you're looking for something more creative than simply attach games posters, I would suggest you this book as a source of inspiration:

        A4 @ 300ppi is 2480x3508
        A3 @ 300ppi is 3508x4691
        A2 @ 300ppi is 4961x6992
        A1 @ 300ppi is 7016x9933

PPI stands for pixels per inch and 300 is the minimum for a good quality print, especially with professional printers. Anything can be blown up by an expert to poster size, but the bigger the original image, the better quality the reproduction will be and the easier to create. There's always going to be a fair amount of interpretation with blow-ups.

If you're worried about resolution, go for a FullHD poster, which will be 1080p vertically.

Ok seriously, you can work out how big an image is by finding the dpi of the printer you'll be using. For example, if a printer prints at 600dpi, then a 600x600 image will be an inch long without resizing, which is tiny. If the printer is 300dpi, the image will be two inches long, and so on.

Ideally, I'd recommend vector art for the sort of sizes you'd be wanting if you're going to be very demanding with the final quality (and why wouldn't you be?). If your idea of minimalist gaming art is something like a giant Cave, Capcom or Sega logo, say, you can download them as vectors which can then be resized to any size without losing any quality.

As for taking any image and making it any size, yes they can. Whether you'd trust them to do it properly is a different matter, so you could just resize yourself in Photoshop, trying all the resizing options (bicubic or whatever) and fiddling with sharpness/etc until you're happy with the result before giving them the giant file. I'd do it that way if I were in your shoes unless I was convinced they'd have some specialist equipment/software that I don't.

Just try and find the largest images you can to avoid a significant quality drop when resizing. Alternatively, if the poster is from some old 8-bit/16-bit game, you could probably get away with a blocky resizing to make it look 'authentic'

From that thread fuse linked to, someone on here does printing up to 1m x 1.5m:
