Using Optical cable with 360 & HDMi cable

    Hey guys,

Is it possible to still use an optical cable when you connect the 360 by HDMi??

I've got my 360 connected to the G20 by HDMi & then the TV is hooked upto the Amp by Optical cable but I'm only getting basic Pro Logic from the 360 (& Toshiba EP30 for that matter) so I was wondering if I could get an adaptor so I can hook the 360 up directly to the amp (doesnt have HDMi in ) to get Dolby Digital properly.

    Thanks in advance

I'm sure someone will come in here with a more detailed answer, but I'll start things off.

Basically I'm 100% sure the answer is yes. I think you need some extra cable though to allow it, and since I don't have an HDMI model I don't quite know how it works, but I know it does work as a friend has his set up that way.

this is what you need. i will be getting one myself soon. you connect the hdmi cable normally and the audio is routed from the port above it.

really you only need the sound adaptor.

third party ones are available from £2.50 but im not sure if they are any good.

My understanding is that you can remove the shell from your Composite cable to make that fit whilst having HDMI connected, and use that to get Optical sound.

At least I know it's possible now so Dolby Digital will be back soon
