    xbox media player question

    lo all,

in last couple of nights i've finally got round to "trying" to get the most out of my chipped xbox.
I've used the slayers disc (V2) and got evox, XBMP, etc loaded up on a 40 gig HD - (which originally came out of my sky+), and it was bloody hard work getting it to work too!!

Anyway, i'm at the stage now where if my modchip (original executer) is switched on then i can use exox and apps, and also access the original microsoft dash from evox. I can't however use the xbox with the mod switched off, just keep getting the green "you xbox needs servicing screen".

I've ftp'd pictures into xbox media player and all is ok.
I also have lots of songs on the c: which i can play when using the original MS dash (but only via evox)

Can some one tell me what i have to do to play all these songs/tracks via the xbox media player, and not via the original MS dash?

I have no c: listed in xbox media player.

I hope i've made that clear enough, i dont wanna have to ftp all the songs i have on the c: into the f: aswell.

    Thankssssss

You need to alter one of the dashboard files in order for the MS dash to kick in when the chip is off. Im at work now so cant check on mine but Im pretty sure this is the problem. Might be worth PMing Camps as he knows what to do.

Im not sure about your other question, but I assume you could alter the XBMP cfg file to look at the C drive area instead.

YOUWIN, have a look at the readme file on the Slayers disc or in the ZIP the slayers ISO came out of, there is a troubleshooting section at the bottom which deals with your exact problem and it is easily solved by copying a new ms dash .xbe onto your c:

Sounds like you might not have locked your HD - get ConfigMafic and stick it on your box and lock it then you shouldn't get the green screen. Before you do that what's the error code on the screen?

You need to edit the XBMP config - open it in Notepad and browse to the music section. You should see a line along the lines of:

        Share: e:music (something like that)

        Change it to:

        Share: c:

save it and stick it back on your Xbox.

I would try and keep all non-essential files off of the c: drive btw; put them in e: or f:

Marcus, Superkully and Peter thx for the advice

re: the dash problem....... the real problem that i had initially, was that i could not access the MS orig dash from within evox - i followed the slayer install instructions to the letter, tried all the various versions on the install disc, and could not get it to work, then did the renaming of the file from my backup of the original xbox disc - still never got it going, then in utter desperation i copied everything from the original c: and e: onto the new HDD, which then got the orig MS dash booting from evox, and hence the position i am in now.

Pete, you are quite correct about the locking of the disc - it's not locked - my config magic on the slayer disc would not work - it would just hang and not load - so i FTP'd it off the disc D: on to my PC then FTP'd it back into the apps folder on the new HDD - tried running it from there, but it did the same thing, with the same result. Perhaps it just did not burn correctly onto the disc in the first place - i now have another version "configmagic final" which i'll transfer over to the HDD and try that this weekend.

TBH if i can't get the original MS dash to load with the chip off then it's not too disasterous as i have another bog standard US xbox that i can use for live anyway. - although it would be a sense of achievment, after the many hours i'ev spent on it, + it's just buggin me!!

Re the media player, - after getting this far, FTPing, learning about Mirc to find files etc, burning formatting strange drives, and god knows what else i've had to do to get at this stage, then a bit of editing of lines in a config notepad file should be a piece a piss, (half-life memories ) + will certainly give it a go.

I'm well impressed with the apps and software so far tho, and wished i'd made the efforts ages and ages ago, escpecially as i got the executer chip and installed it myself pretty soon after it was released. I could have been well up on all this stuff by now......

          cheers fellas....
