Can't choose a decent resolution

I recently bought a new 27" full HD TV/monitor to replace my 5 year old Sammy 26" which i bought when the 360 launched.

1360 by 738 looked great on my old TV but looks blurry on my new set. I've tried all other resolution settings and they are all pretty terrible.

My TV say's put into 1920 by 1080, but my max setting is 1600 by 1200 when i try to change (i guess i'm restricted by my 8800 GT graphics card?).

I've tried updating all drivers etc, any idea's as i'm pretty useless when it comes to PC stuff.

I am currently looking at a new graphics card (something like a radeon 5770) and will use my old one in my old XP system.

It isn't your 8800gt. I have one and it runs in 1080p.

Either your system isn't recognising your new monitor correctly (since it's only giving you a 4:3 option) or that's the highest the tv will support and you'll have to go into widescreen mode on the tele to get it fullscreen.

Check the manual first and if it does support a higher res then either delete/uninstall the monitor in windows device manager that will require a system reboot. It will find and install the drivers again once it reboots or force the resolution via the drivers.

What model is it? If it's primarily a tv then it's probably a max res issue.

What are you connecting is using? VGA or HDMI? It should work over HDMI (and most TVs have a 'PC' mode, which basically makes it into a DVI port), but most Full HD TVs have a resolution 'cap' when running in VGA mode.

It will most likely work, my TV only lets you have 1366x768 if you're using VGA without doing some tinkering but accepts 1080p just fine over DVI>HDMI from my PC
