What do I need for xbox FTP?

Hi all,
I'm fairly clued up on what I need...I think. A crossover cable (would this one do? ) And flashfxp etc. What i'm not sure about is whether or not i can actually have the right hardware for the PC to connect a crossover cable. I'm fairly stupid when it comes to PC hardware so i'm not sure if I have a network card or NIC card (which i've seen mentioned, dunno what it is though) Also saw some mention of maybe not needing one if I have a USB (broadband) modem, which I do but this might be completely wrong.
So basically what am I looking for on my PC to be able to connect a crossover cable?

All you need is....

Cross over cable
Network Card (also known as an NIC)
Flash FXP
A modded xbox
A dashboard which supports FTPing (such as EvolutionX, Avalaunch etc etc)
