Broadband without phone line...

Hi all,
having moved back to my parents I'm finding the super-slow broadband here insufficient for my streaming, gaming, etc. needs.
The phone line is in use with my parents' slow service already and I'm wondering what my options are for faster broadband, preferably unlimited downloads and without the need for a second line.

I've had a look at mobile broadband and they all had very small download limits. In my old place I got suepr-fast speeds with 02, but alas they don't do anything, can someone help out? Or is it a scond line or bust!?

Virgin Media cable, if it's available. That's your only feasable option really

Yeah figured as much, just been looking at some of their 'deals', so will probably plump with them. Now to read reviews and see if they're any good, I've heard mixed things!

In the Telewest/NTL days they were great, but have gone a bit crap since becoming Virgin. All their packages except the most expensive one are now capped. It's not a simple system either, you can only dl x amount between y and z times etc etc.

I'd like to be on the 50 meg package but can't justify it to myself right now.

Mobile broadband is not going to cut it for you. I have it and it frequently stutters on streaming clips off the net so it's not going to suffice for gaming.

Virgin is okay, very solid speeds due to the fact that it's fibre optic cable instead of crappy old telephone exchanges, but they traffic manage like a bitch. Basically during the daytime if you go over 1500MB of downloads you get cut down to 200k/s for 5 hours. During the night time go wild though with usenet etc and you thankfully don't get throttled.

I'm on 10MB with them (£20 p/month without a phone line, which is why we got it) and I get about 1.2MB/s down. Except when they're throttling me ¬_¬
