That's strange, I have DVDx 2 and had DVDx 1, and I could use the remote (although as a controller rather than using the play, stop etc. buttons)

DVD Region X requires the Version 4034 Dashboard or lower.

Download THIS it works on all versions. [Windows Program]

Just goes to the Xbox-scene downloads page and asks me to request a tool...

Ah. Well click "Development Tools and XBE Patching" and then look for:

>> MS Dashboard Dvd Region Free Patch
This patch is to remove DVD region check in the DVD player from original XBOX dashboard.
It works (tested) on following Microsoft dashboard versions :
3944, 4034, 4817, 4920 rev. 10027100, 4920 rev. 1012a700, 5659 rev. 17e4cd00
It may work (not tested) on following Microsoft dashboard versions: 4627
