Hi Guys,

This is more of a software question then normal hardware threads that are on here. I've seen others use openoffice rather than word because its free to download. Does anyone rate this or is it just a 'naff' version of word? I'm thinking of work and home?

It's fairly usable, but I still prefer Office. Give it a shot, it's a fairly small download and you'll be able to evaluate it yourself.

If you are only generating documents yourself then openoffice is great.
If you are being sent office files, then openoffice deals with opening much of it well, but things like macros in excel are still quite hit and miss in my experience. And formatting in word isn't perfect.

The gg-oo builds of OpenOffice have superior support for .docx files, and have the ability to save in that format.
