    What Hard Drive?

This http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/showthread.php?t=105512 tuned out to be a failed hard drive.

Had some good advice before via this forum when my laptop drive failed.

Hoping you can point me in the right direction again

I have the old one out, but haven't a clue what size it is, and where best to get one.

    Thanks

Take a picture of the interface of the HDD. It'll be SATA or IDE. The size required is 2.5".

          Thanks

          So I need a 2.5" SATA.

Any particular size, and can you recommend a good retailer?

I bought a 250GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache Western Digital from ebuyer for £41 posted recently. Really fast and works great in my laptop.

Browse Ebuyer's stock of 2.5" SATA Drives. Great prices on models from all of the leading brands. Free delivery and finance options available.

Sorry, 1st post may have been misleading....I'm looking for desktop, as opposed to notebook....do I need a 3.5" then?

You sure its dead? run a drive test etc?

I've had a brand new one die before, and others last 12yrs , its random as such.

I'd make sure that one is actually dead by running a drive test or something before wasting your money though.

Test results were variable...but during the process of reinstalling my OS half a dozen times chkdsc found 'unreadable record segments' amongst other things.

It's very unusual for a HDD to die after 2 years.

Either they die in the first 6 weeks of usage or they last 10+ years of heavy usage
