Best DC KOF game(s)?

I've been playing a little bit of KOF on the emulators for a little while now and think a KOF game (possibly 2) would be a worthy addition to my collection

As far as I can see, there are 99,200,2001 and 2002. Which one (or 2) would the KOF heads amongst us recommend?

Also, at Play-Asia there seem to be 2 versions of 2000, one of them is part of something called the "DreKore series" and costs about ?3 more. What's the difference between the two versions? The descriptions and boxart on the site are the same

Dream Match 99 (a conversion of 98 )
Evolution (A conversion of 99)
2000
2001
2002

I'd definitely recommend getting Dream Match. 98 is widely considered to be the best in the series and you should hunt down a copy of that one.

I've just realised I had Dream Match 99 back in the day. I bought it when SFZ3 came out and it was going cheap in New Age Consoles
I didn't really like it though, it was very slow and it felt a bit uninspired
That said I didn't really give it much of a chance as I was busy with SFZ3

Me too. I'm a fan of the strikers so i'd recommend 99 Evolution and 2001. I rate both higher than (the very popular) KOF '98 but I guess it all depends on your tastes.
Personally I reckon 2001 is way better than 2002 because I prefer the gameplay plus 01 has better presentation and music.

I found a back up of Evolution in my drawer and have played that over the last two days and it seems pretty damn fun, plus the US version is about ?24 at Lik-Sang so I may have to get me one

At Play-Asia theres a deal where if you buy 2002 for $59.90 you can buy 2000 for $18.90 which looks good to me as well
