    PS3 HDD swap

Sorry, tried to seach for this topic as i'm sure it's bee disscussed on here.

Gonna buy a new HDD as my 60GB is just not cutting it anymore.

If i go to the option in the XBM to back up to external HDD. I take it it will format the external HDD, then back-up everything onto it.

So then replace the 60GB HDD with whatever i buy. Then recover everything from the EX-HDD back onto the new HDD.

Will it keep my profile details etc, as i've no idea what my password etc is.
I've used the auto sign-in for the last 4yrs, and when i ask it to send the password to my email it never works.

Anything i'm missing or should be aware of?

Whats the best make of HDD for this app?
And whats the biggest size i can go for?

Alright got me a 400gb for the ps3 and a 1t external USB hdd to back it up onto for the transfer.
The 1t is brand new so I'm guessing I need to format the drive as the ps3 doesn't recognise it?

Format utility on ps3 just lists: memory stick, sd mc, compact flash and harddisk which I'm guessing is the one in the ps3 it's self, not the external 1tb.

So what am I doing wrong?

I believe the PS3 only recognises FAT32, not NTFS. Probably your problem, connect to a PC and format it as such.

Ok i'm in 'my copmuter', right click on the hdd drive > Format... > File system > exFat no Fat32!?!?!? Now what. When i try exFat iget 'windows was unable to format' blah blah!

              Now what?

Yeah, Windows only allows you to format FAT32 up to a certain size. If you have access to Linux that'll do it for you, alternatively you can use fat32format, which worked a treat for me.
