    Download Youtube video

I've been trying to download a video off youtube, but can't seem to get anything to work.

I've tried various freeware programs, firefox addons, the Safari Activity monitor trick and even the sites where you type in the address for the video and it saves it for you, but nothing is working. Any help guys?

    THe video is this:

I want to download it and send it to a friend who lives abroad, he can't watch it through youtube, as I believe Channel 4 only allow UK viewings? correct me if i'm wrong as I have sent him the link but he has said he couldn't get it to work.

Youtube embeds the videos differently when other normal ones. So you can't save them, i've tried for a similar reason...

I've used KeepVid in the past, but tend to use the DownloadHelper add-on in Firefox.

can you not just load the vid in safari then open the activity monitor from the windows option, find the biggest file and double click, that will start downloading the file, then take the downloaded file, put .flv on the end and pop in into MPEG stream clip, from there you can export it as anything you like.

thats what always works for me.

Maybe it's the way YouTube are encoding them now. I've noticed my WMP doesn't play any FLVs I download any more. It used to play them fine using the FLV Splitter, in fact old FLVs still do play in WMP, just not recent ones.

I use the 1-click YouTube video downloader add-on for FireFox.

Haven't tried with the video you want but you still get the buttons to download in which format you require.

Thats what I normally do, but the biggest file is only a few KBs which doesn't make sense

MJ my understanding is what you have linked to WMP classic which will allow me to play flv files, but the problem is not playing the files its extracting them from youtube. I will check out the program anyway incase I'm wrong when I get a chance to use a pc tomorrow (i'm using a mac atm).

wonderboy seems to have sorted me out, so a big thanks to him. would still be interesting to find a way to overcome this type of encoding by youtube

The link is to an FLV splitter that allows the official WMP to play FLV files. Just something I thought you might find useful once you're able to download FLVs.
