Tread carefully there, it's really easy to screw things up in service mode. If you have the original remote control, the Fastext keys normally allow you to navigate and change the values.

The adjustments wouldn't work for me when displaying NTSC picture for some reason; like you described, the keys did nothing. However, once a PAL image was displayed, the keys worked.

What Breadboy said. Just to confirm, the remote is the correct one for this model (RM-836). I think it's probably one of the most common Sony remote controls, I have the same one for a widescreen model.

            Great minds think alike !
This is what was sticking in my mind this morning, what differences could be causing this.At first, i thought it was down to my self made mega drive cable (jap mega drive)not having the scart pin 8 present (telling the tv that a 4:3 or 16:9 image was coming through from the console) .So ,i reconnected it and still nothing.

So i just plugged in my old playstation fat to see if it was a region thing and found my theory correct ,corrected the h and v for the jap md .Strange why it refuses ntsc-j sync signals in the service mode adjustments option.
Dot on picture like ,seems on par with my back up 1084sd-1 .

Next thing i'm putting together is a cheap external horizontal shift correction circuit for the md,which should work with all tv's .

Yes that seems to be the case. It might be a way to prevent inaccurate adjustment of a 50Hz picture, which would've been the priority on a TV from that era. You can always use another 50Hz source to make adjustments. I normally use a DVD player with a Test Card DVD for best results.

So I could just hook up any old DVD player and that test card and I'm good to go- sounds like the cheapest option.

                  Thanks

Yes so long as you set the DVD player to output RGB it'll be fine. If you're not sure if your TV is receiving an RGB feed, try turning the colour down - it shouldn't have any effect. Often the colour adjustment (on-screen display) will be greyed-out or missing in RGB mode.

Found my old pal N64 in the garage so trying that.
Need to keep swapping scarts from rgb modded cable and the one linked to the pal one as I am trying to centre the rgb image.

Trial and error at the mo.
Does anyone know waht to adjust? Is it just the H centre option? If so , does anyone know a set number?
