    ram problem

    girlfriends computer has a problem i have installed 2gb of ram but only appears to recognise 64mb for some reason...meaning windows xp does not boot properly

    i have tried all the ram sticks one by one.....and in different slots and still the same problem anyone got any ideas ?

    check the bios settings to see if there's anything limiting them.

      yeah tried ...and resetted them...just downloading a bios update now and when i go back to hers will try a update see if that fixes it

      happened all of a sudden...is it possible a virus could do this ?

        It's possible. There is a setting in Windows that limits the amount of ram it can use, never heard of anything that alters it though.

          You could try memtest86+ and check if both sticks are alright. Not too sure if it can be booted from a usb drive noiwaday, but a cdr copy of memtest86+ is always useful.

            ahh have about 6 memory sticks and tried them all still the same problem in different slots seems like at the boot the bios just does not recognise it ...and when it gets to windows its really slow
