JPN Satellite Systems (or importing a PSX)

Are the Japanese Satellite systems compatable with Sky?

I'm asking as I'm thinking of asking the Misses for a PSX for Xmas.

No, I think they're totally different.

nope there totally different and would use different encryption in them or i they might be fta receivers but wouldn't be able to pickup any as japan sats are a long way away

not so sure, its been "reported" that the PAL release will be about 30% more expensive than the JPN release, if this is true then I could get it cheaper via an import.

              Wait and see what happens.

There is no point importing it if you can't use hard drive or make it multi region. How do we know if we can record anything on it.

              Too risky in my book

doubt that as sony wont pay for sky encryption to be used in the box, so it'll be fta sat reciever if it gets released.

I had a look, and it just said that there wasn't any confirmed date.

Anyway, here's the quote that makes me think that it might well not be

They may have meant the Japanese version, or they may have meant the unit as a whole. We'll see. I'd like to see it in the UK, even if I'd never afford one.

I'm not so sure it will be down to sony, I think it will be up to Sky to allow sony to use this as a Sky+ box. Sony already have a license for normal sky boxes (they make a nice high end digibox), they just need it extending to include Sky+, which could mean replacing a big part of their interface on the box. And to be honest, I can't see Sky missing out on the potential customers that this could generate or losing exisiting ones to freeview if they don't license it.

yeah and plus it could be even better than a sky+ box cause of the bigger hard drive meaning more hours to record on it

In theory Sony should be able to make it sky compatible but in practise I doubt it will happen. It will be a lot of work to make it the same style as the Sky+ box. [Sony remember has one of the best Digiboxes you can get or used to atleast]. I'm going to hedge a bet that this won't see the light of day outside JPN and the US but who knows.

                              Regards,
                              Neil.
