Multi Region BR player or American BR Player up to ?150?

Any recommendations for a decent region A capable Blu Ray player to possibly replace my JPN PS3? Any help would be great.

I'm in a similar situation to you. I'm juggling a Japanese PS3 for R-A and a prototype Oppo player for R-B discs and I want one machine to do it all.

BD players are very hard to mod chip, they have insanely small solder points more often than not. That means the modded players are very expensive. To give you some idea:

I've never seen a BD player that screws the picture quality up, they all do a good job. So what really differentiates them is usability and speed. I like the Panasonic players, but Oppo's are still some of the fastest around (they do sometimes need a firmware update when a new disc comes out though).

I don't mind having two players as I do now (the ps3 for region A and a Sony BDP S360 for UK discs) I'm just thinking of selling the ps3, not sure I'd like a 'chipped' machine anyway, I'm sure they are fine though. Are ntsc players easy to source in the UK or would I need to import?

Grt yourslef on AV Forums & keep an eye on the Blu-Ray sales threads.

There's currently a Sharp Aquos Region A player for frankly unbeliveable £40

Probably not a top player but for £40 as long as it works you can't really argue.

I got my Panasonic Region A player from there for £80 delivered a while ago so it's the best option really IMO

I can't think of anywhere in the UK selling US players.

As for the modded ones, most of them seem to be sold by Scandinavian stores. But obviously they're in the EU, so no import taxes. Just slightly pricier shipping.

I'd love a multi region player, or a JP PS3 in addition to my UK one...

How does one "chip" a blu-ray player?

Is it a 20GB? I'm after a 20GB JP PS3 currently as I like the black trim and could play NTSC-J games on my 24" LCD monitor instead of needing a PS2 setup..

If so then you'd be able to tempt me.

Well I HAVE downgraded my Arcana Heart 3 order from the LE of the game and the arcade stick to just the regular game so let me know dude and I'll take it off your hands - price dependant of course.

I don't think it's all that easy to do.

HMV were selling a player a little while back that could be remote controlled hacked for region A playback...

But you had to input the code everytime you turned the player on as it reverted back to region B

You can buy the chips online.
Then after bricking 4 or 5 players trying to solder onto the tiny, itsy bitsy chip legs, you cry and buy a pre-modded unit
