Any recommendations for a decent region A capable Blu Ray player to possibly replace my JPN PS3? Any help would be great.

I'm in a similar situation to you. I'm juggling a Japanese PS3 for R-A and a prototype Oppo player for R-B discs and I want one machine to do it all.
BD players are very hard to mod chip, they have insanely small solder points more often than not. That means the modded players are very expensive. To give you some idea:

I've never seen a BD player that screws the picture quality up, they all do a good job. So what really differentiates them is usability and speed. I like the Panasonic players, but Oppo's are still some of the fastest around (they do sometimes need a firmware update when a new disc comes out though).

Grt yourslef on AV Forums & keep an eye on the Blu-Ray sales threads.
There's currently a Sharp Aquos Region A player for frankly unbeliveable £40
Probably not a top player but for £40 as long as it works you can't really argue.
I got my Panasonic Region A player from there for £80 delivered a while ago so it's the best option really IMO

How does one "chip" a blu-ray player?
HMV were selling a player a little while back that could be remote controlled hacked for region A playback...
But you had to input the code everytime you turned the player on as it reverted back to region B
