    Removing 'gunk' from a disc

Been sorting through the piles of games I've accumulated over the past few months and one secondhand PS2 game looks as though something has been spilt on the disc. It's on the underside. I've had a go at it with a damp cloth and got most of it off, but there is still some remaining. What can I use for this sort of thing? Is there a liquid or something I can buy? Am I better off taking it to my local Blockbuster and using their cleaning machine tingum?

While we're on the subject, is there a good product for removing stickers from game boxes/manuals? Some just come right off, while others (I'm looking at you, Cash Convertors) leave horrible sticky residue all over the show.

    Thanks for any help.

Not 100% sure it will be strong enough, but give it a whirl.

For sticker residue I use white spirit, although some claim it can actually damage the plastic. Never had a problem myself, but there are less harsh, branded alternatives.

Banana's are for monkeys, real men use microwaves.

Um thanks guys. It's not scratching I'm trying to remove, there's something stuck to the disc. Perhaps a sticker remover could be used?

As suggested white spirits or alcohol is perfect for the job.

I use toothpaste, let it set for about a minute then run boiling hot water on the disc (from the tap) to remove the toothpaste.

Bit mad but it's great for cleaning and even sometimes fixes boot anomalies.

Cheers for the advice folks. Took it down to blockbuster in the end which got most of it off and must have loosened the rest as I managed to get it almost completely gunk-free afterwards with a damp cloth. Checked the disc in my PS2 and it works a treat. Hurrah.

              Thanks again.
