Haven't read of any POST problems, only Win-related problems...the NIC taking more time to set up might be an interrupt conflict that Win needs to solve.
If the problems started when he changed the video card I assume that anything pre-Windows work.

I should have mentioned this before perhaps (which means I definitely should have), but the card is actually sluggish to initalise on the initial start up.

With the older Nvidia card I'd hit the power button on the PC and the system would spring into life straight away. With this new card it's a lot slower - the power is on but the monitor sits there blinking, almost like it's looking for the monitor for a good five / six seconds before it springs into life with the Bios screen.

Also with the new card in I'm noticing that video editing is an absolute no-no. At first I though it was my experimenting with 60fps video captures, but this afternoon I've gone back to previous footage shot at 25fps and the video editor is struggling to play it back. Outside of the editor in something like Windows Media Player it plays just fine.

Finding it a bit weird that a five year old card was chewing through the stuff better than the higher spec, new one. That's got to be something bottlenecking it hasn't it?

Sounds like a GPU driver conflict to me. Had the same problem when I switched from my FX5600 to a X700. At least, within windows. Dunno about your PC taking a while to boot. Mine did that briefly but I can't for the life of me remember why. Could be something to do with grounding..

A clean install should fix all problems.

Alternatively, uninstalling the current drivers and related software and using drivercleaner might still work.
