windows 7 ..media centre and xbox

having problems xbox will not recognise media centre on windows 7

for some reason it recognises the pc and the files on the pc so can wacth some thing but i want to access all via media centre

anyone have any ideas (oh media centre seems to recognise the xbox and puts on the extender )

Anything you want to access should be in your audio/video/photo libraries and shared.
You can then use my videos etc.
You have to go through a small setup routine to add an extender from within WMC before you can use it on Xbox (360 I assume).

Media Centre barely supports any formats. It's awful.

Best off using PS3 media server.

        You couldn't be more wrong.
Install Divx7 on your PC and it will play divx and mkv (mainly x/h264) WITHOUT transcoding.
This covers the majority of what most people need.
Audio can be a bit tricky but AC3 filter with Haali splitter should sort this out.
WMC also allows you to watch any live TV programs your PC can receive if you have a tuner fitted and any of the recordings you may have made.

True, but I don't believe it ever supported subs.

And when you watch anime like myself..

          Otherwise though you're quite right.

For what it's worth I'll give you a snapshot of what I use to keep my Media Centre setup ticking over now I have a process in place.

Firstly... if you have any playback issues for files install the latest Divx, FFDShow or Shark007 driver packages. For me I had an issue with playing back large .avi format files as they got out of synch audio issues. Now they playback perfectly running the Shark007 driver set.

Next up share out your content and get yourself the Media Browser plug-in for MCE as it makes everything on the Xbox look a lot nicer. It downloads metadata from the web to fill in film/episode synopsis, banner art etc...

Then for downloading new episodes or keeping a nice naming convention house style for your media get yourself TV Rename. Its an application that auto-formats your collection of TV Shows on the fly once you've synch'ed up with folders to scan.

All that lot means it's a cinch to obtain and sort media and more often than not the naming convention is accepted instantly by media browser allowing it to auto-populate all the metadata (some films can be picky but mostly its fine). What you end up with is a nice library and format for viewing your media.

I have the same problem I think. I enter the code the xbox gave me but it just errors.

Doesn't matter if windows firewall or hardware firewall are off or on.
