    DSI XL question

    Hi guys,

Just got myself a DSI XL (lovely it is too) and just have a quick (and perhaps silly question.

How far should you open the screen? When I open it it naturally wants to sit in a more upright position (see pic below) - which would be ideal if it was on a table or something, but in terms of sitting around playing it, it's not idea as you don't get full head on view of the screens.

It can open a bit further and sort of clicks when it gets into place - and when it's like this, it's open like my old DS would be. (see pic)

Is it ok to have it open like this? As I say it's much more like my old DS when like this, easier to see and more comfy to use etc. Just worried I'm doing it damage or something. There is no info in the instructions about how far you should open it, and I can't find anything online. I know you shouldn't (well at least you it was true with the DS Lite) open it flat, but not sure with this one!

    Any help appreciated

The screen can open up to 180°, like the DS Lite and the original DS.

I always used my LL when I had it like that. It's designed for that usage I believe.

Its perfectly fine in either position, the DSi XL hinge has an extra position as discussed in the DSi XL "Iwata Asks" interview with the designers (Page 4):-

        Iwata:
So if you open the top screen, it stops in two positions.

        Yoneyama:
That’s right. With the Nintendo DSi, it only stops in one position, which is at an angle of around 155 degrees. For the Nintendo DSi XL, we added a further position of about 120 degrees. But this was actually quite difficult to successfully achieve. Getting the screen to stop in two positions even on a mobile phone...

        Iwata:
Most mobile phones only stop in one position, don’t they?

        Yoneyama:
Right. As mobile phones are products that you open and close a lot, factors like durability have to be considered and normally they are made so that they only stop in one position. But with the Nintendo DSi XL, the LCD screen has become bigger and the angle of vision has been increased so we wanted it to also stop at 120 degrees.

        Iwata:
        I see.

Well the links ok it's not my affiliate link or anything just a regular one, lol charles would kill me if i had shoved my link in there.

The protectors are a bit pricy but trust me the quality is top notch, theres no sensitivity issues or anything once installed & they last ages i have had mine on since launch & theres not a single mark on them. Im tempted to buy a couple before they are phased out as the xl goes out of production.

I meant I clicked the PA link at the bottom of the page. Picked up a couple of sets from Game yesterday too though, 0.48p each, not tried them t, but thought it would keep me right till the PA ones came, so yes, they are pretty expensive compared to those.
