360 'emergency supply kit' for potential RROD??

Just a quick question. Had my 360 Jasper for nearly 2 years, been working fine, never had a problem. I also install my games rather than playing from the drive, so as to avoid fan problems.

As I've had my machine so long, I'm kind of expecting that there will be some point where it'll RROD.

In preparation for this possibility, could I keep a 'repair kit' on standby, whereby should by 360 die on me, I will already have the tools needed to fix it on hand?

I'm guessing you'd need certain Torx/Security Torx screwdrivers for opening the machine and pad up, probably some thermal paste. What other stuff?

    Torx T8, T10
    Thermal paste
    Alcohol wipes
Xclamp kit with various spring/nylon washers from ebay
Optional - metal heatsink for scaler chip
Optional - if you don't want to gouge your case to pieces - opening tool (also on ebay for a couple quid but are apparently gash)

Opening the thing is the main bloody problem.

Or you could mod the airflow to actually work properly so that it lasts longer.

It's a jasper so it won't go wrong through time.

Weeeeell, thanks for the advice but maybe that's a bit more techy than I was hoping for. I was more after something that I could have around during the worst case scenario (ie. the dreaded RROD), so I can attempt to fix it once the worst has happened, I tend to learn better that way (just like relationships).

I hope you're right, I'd happily be NTSC-uk's official 360 Jasper guinea pig, my Gran Turismo 3 PAL PS2 reaches its 10th birthday in September, it still works fine, I'm pretty delicate with my consoles.

              ?

There's a multitude of faults they can develop. I've had two Jaspers with E74, drive could fail etc

And Jzzfunk the 3 red lights covers around 40 different errors, so those eBay 'kits' are a bit bollocks. Just play the thing and don't think about it.

If I'm not mistaken, modding the airflow involves sticking some bits of cardboard on one of the heatsinks and inside the big plastic airflow sheath. Not so techy now, eh?
