XBOX 360 to displayport on monitor.

I'm using both vga and dvi inputs on my monitor. Anyone know if I can use a cheap hdmi to displayport adapters to go from my 360 to my monitor?

    I believe so.

My (limited) understanding is that you can go from Displayport on your PC/Mac to dvi/hdmi on your monitor, but not the other way, i.e from console/computer hdmi or dvi to displayport on the monitor, and almost certainly not with a passive device.

I've researched it a bit because I've had my eye on an Nec monitor with displayport (and no hdmi) and wanted to know if it'd be possible. If anyone knows different, I'd be interested to hear.

The passive device only appear to work on the output side not input as the intelligence to drive the display is in the output hardware only.

Ahh, never mind then. Thanks all.

If anyone does find a way please let me know.

Probably best to pick up a dirt cheap manual HDMI switcher and use DVI adaptors. There will be no quality loss.

Oh, apologies again. I thought a displayport was just some Apple thing that allowed for various outputs with adaptors.

                Okay, some searching has revealed....

So, it seems from my last bout of research, that things have moved on a bit.

Two companies offer (active) converters that are Mac focused. The Kanex XD and the Belkin AV360. The better built of the two appears to be the Belkin. However, the Belkin doesn't seem to be released in the UK, yet.

Unfortunately they both seem focused on the 27" Macintosh Cinema screen and it's weird restricted resolutions.

However, there is a third contender and that's from Atlona:

Pardon my ignorance, but this saves me making a new thread, is it easy for me to use the hdmi out on my 360 to the dvi slot on my monitor?

Someone told me that wasn't possible, but I thought I'd ask here.

I'm currently using the VGA slot but that means I have to switch between my pc and 360, which is a pain.

Also, if this is possible, do I need that extra adapter that came with the 360 to carry the audio?

The 360 will automatically detect when it is connected to a DVI socket (instead of HDMI) and give you the full range of PC resolutions. You will need to get audio by some other means though (using a cable/adaptor to get analogue stereo or optical).

Excellent, thanks for that, but do I need to buy some kind of HDMI to DVI adaptor?

If so, are there any recommended ones?

Or is there another solution for 360 to DVI?

                      Apologies for all the questions.

You can either use a HDMI->DVI adaptor, or a HDMI->DVI cable (which might be easier).

You should have no problem going to HDMI to Displayport either with a straight lead or adapter.
